37:57. People tend to have a VERY difficult time estimating exponentials. So estimates tend to bifurcate along the lines of "it's not happening in my lifetime" and "it's going to happen next year." Even people who understand exponentials are going to have a hard time truly estimating the time to a given mile stone, because you really don't know how much terrain is between you and that goal. However, I think over all, the industry is underestimating ML progress.

ML as a discipline, as we think of it today, is only about 7 years old, and was enabled by big data and programable shaders. (Everything prior to that was merely embryonic, being pushed by about three research scientists.) In that very short window of time it has completely supplanted pretty much all of the traditional approaches to intelligent systems. Speech recognition and image recognition, which have efforts going all the way back to WWII, have been completely over turned with neural nets, and the performance difference is night and day. In fact, the best professional efforts of the old guard were utterly obliterated by a couple of grad students over the course of a summer. Google's DeepMind group solved the protein folding problem in only three years, a previously open problem which had been plaguing micro biology for over thirty years.

Not only is the progress we've already seen in such a short time mind bending, we're still working with very unrefined tools and techniques, which are themselves rapidly advancing. AI is going to progress faster than any technological revolution we have heretofore seen, and by no small margin.

Thank You for good info, an good sound without music 👍! I think that general AI could become real, faster than we know, because the development is not linear, it moves in steps, but maby I'm wrong ?

A.I. … there is not even an A.I. spell checker yet, can't even do that. Think we are pretty far away from this A.I. that there is so much talk about.

Alex I like your channel, and I think you're doing a good job, but I think you could make some improvements. I think your content would be better if it were carefully scripted. Observe SciShow with Hank Green or PBS Spacetime for examples of carefully scripted and professionally delivered content. I believe you could say the same thing in half the time, and more precisely, which would make your videos more appealing and help your channel grow. Just my two cents.

Great job making a video this length with this depth of topic using a small number of edited clips. It's actually really refreshing to listen to when it's almost exactly like you'd listen to someone giving a talk or lecture. And I think as a result, you don't display any of the condescending or annoying "news broadcaster" up-and-down vocal inflections that are part and parcel of almost any other internet information source. Overall, well done on content and presentation.

Hello Alex,
Is it recommend to code all the machine learning algorithms from scratch so that I can learn math behind it or just understand and start to code?
