London could very easily be its own country if it wanted to! Its just so powerful, so dynamic and affluent as well as being so interconnected with everywhere else in the world

Mistake on the population of London. Other cities are not measured like London. Other cities include their entire suburbs (not just 1/3 of them) like we do. For a correct comparison, we have to include the continuous suburban metropolitan land forming London post the 1940's that has never been officially included in the administrative imaginary lines. The population of London is closer to the previous GLA number where this was studied (and I was a part) of 21.3 million. Today that number is over 22 million but by how much we have to wait for further statistics. This is a much more reliable number when comparing and contrasting cities in Japan, China or the US (where CSA is used).

After working in financial services I understood how London really works. London and New York are symbiotic. London does specialisms, New York does stock markets (that is a very crude description) and the two are locked in an embrace. Neither can be the world's largest financial centre because they uniquely need each other and have a relationship between two cities like no other. They are both number 1 with no rival below them for a very long way despite bizarre lists. London's entire suburbs combined makes London a $1.3 trillion economy!

On slavery – the whole world was at it, but the Empire was built on trade, not state invasion of land for the sheer hell of it. Important that, otherwise people think we were alone in this!

Shanghai has poverty that will never see it overtake London. They are so far behind despite the headlines. Mumbai and others – little chance either. People underestimate how developed the UK is, how hard clean water, high food standards, deep level sewer systems and clean air really is just as a basic starting point. The quality of life in Shanghai is also very poor compared to London. No matter how much money you have, you cannot live like someone with money in the UK, and there is no sign that will change. Chinese cities are heavily populated but nowhere near the size of London's metropolitan area in size. Apartment living is mostly your choice. On the south side of Shanghai there are some houses but with many issues. History, historic planning, taking time to do things properly gives great rewards to the UK that I don't think any country will surpass in the new world anytime even in the next centuries.

You hit it: London is the biggest tax paradise of the world! Three years I lived there and I assure: after Brexit they'll try to pull it along. Thank's God there is an EU!!!

The financial sector is too large propped up by the Bank of England and low interest rates that have driven up asset prices that they own. It’s a boost for London and a drag on the rest of the U.K.

I loved the video but the city of London is not a city inside of London it is the financial capital of London and its just the part of London that was made before the rest of London
